School Captaincy Team 2013-2014

We are delighted to announce the appointment of our Captaincy Team for 2013-14. Following an application process, votes from peers, presentations and interviews, we have appointed two School Captains – Scott Duncan and Louise Hay. They will be ably supported by three Vice-Captains – Jenny Brownlie, Katie Laggan and Darren Smith. Congratulations to all five, and we wish them a very successful year, leading the pupil body of the school.

Kilsyth Academy is a non-denominational six-year comprehensive co-educational school. It was established in the small, historic burgh of Kilsyth towards the end of the 19th century and moved to the present building in 1952.

The school serves the communities of Kilsyth, Banton, Campsie Glen, Haughead, Lennoxtown, Queenzieburn and Milton of Campsie.

The present building was designed by Sir Basil Spence in the 1930s and opened officially in 1954. An additional wing was built in 1964 and the school was extensively refurbished in 2006.

Parent Council  fundraising

More details of how you can support the Parent Council's fundraising activities
The Parent Council is currently fundraising, with a view to purchasing equipment for pupils in the school. If you are doing any on-line shopping, please access your favourite retailers via easyfundraising.org.uk. If you use sign up at this link to outlets such as Amazon, Marks and Spencer, Tesco, Argos, John Lewis, Comet etc from there, the Parent Council will receive commission on your purchases. It will not cost you any more money to do this.

Rwanda Trip 21st June – 4th July 2013

A group of 2 staff and 12 pupils travelled to Rwanda in June to work with survivors of the genocide and a street kids project. The purpose of this visit was :
  • To provide Kilsyth Academy pupils with an experience of African culture and to share that experience back at school and in the local community.
  • To help develop pupils from the school as global citizens
  • To give pupils perspectives on international educational issues
  • To expose pupils to different cultural situations enabling them to take initiative and grow in confidence
  • To expand pupils understanding of international partnership issues
  • To provide pupils with an on-hand view of the unique history and experience of Rwanda
  • To enable pupils to develop a relationship with survivors of the  1994 genocide
  • To show pupils the possibility of personal contribution to making a difference in a developing country through visiting projects which support local communities and individuals
